Poor People's Campaign
March 29 @ 4:49 am EDT

Join the WV PPC and Rev. Barber on Thursday, April 1st at 3:30pm at UU Congregation of Charleston for a special Maundy Thursday Press Rally and Foot Washing Ritual. Together we will engage in the moral reality of what we need. Healing the nation must start with the washing off of the injustices of voter suppression, racism, poverty, and the Senate filibuster. America needs a new heart and a new kind of caring.

A message from the people of West Virginia to the nation: They are trying to shut us up! And we won’t be silent. We must stand for voting rights and living wages and against voter suppression and the filibuster.

As MLK first theorized in his speech at the close of the Selma to Montgomery March, the denial of voting rights is a reaction of the ruling class to the poor organizing across the race line. We won’t be silent as our elected officials engage in reactionary voter suppression because 55% of poor and low income people voted in the 2020 elections.

As the US Senate engages in the racist and classist filibuster, we know the truth! The truth that filibuster literally means talk to death. We know that the filibuster is really about protecting corporations and the rich. Meanwhile, any legislation that allows people to live, is talked to death on the Senate floor. There must be a cry that comes up from West Virginia: Everybody’s got a right to live! We won’t be silent as a minority of powerful elite people rob the majority of justice in this country.
