Renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs will join the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival for a virtual news conference Thursday to support economic investment that lifts people and to challenge West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin’s claims about Build Back Better.

They will also announce plans for Dr. Sachs to travel to West Virginia next week to join the PPC for a news conference at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the State Capitol in Charleston.

Sachs, who has just returned from the G20 in Rome, will join the PPC:NCMR co-chairs, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, for a news conference at noon ET Thursday. Reporters can register here, and the news conference will be livestreamed here.

Sachs co-hosted a Vatican conference last month on ending poverty and invited Rev. Barber to speak. Last month, Pope Francis appointed Sachs to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

Sachs is a University Professor at Columbia University, the highest academic rank at Columbia. He is director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia and president of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

He has served as an adviser to three UN secretaries-general and now serves as a Sustainable Development Goals advocate under Secretary-General António Guterres. He is the author of several books, most recently “The Ages of Globalization.”
