Poor People's Campaign

October 9, 2020

WHAT: The COVID-19 pandemic means we must transform from the traditional “Souls to the Polls” into a new way of getting out the vote. So the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is asking people of faith to do M.O.R.E. (Mobilize, Organize, Register, Educate People for a Movement that Votes). As part of its M.O.R.E. Faithful Month, the campaign will hold a 30-minute digital event to call on leaders of all faiths — imams, rabbis, ministers and others — to urge their members to vote and for all people of faith to do the same. This includes the “Each Reach Ten” prophetic pledge that calls on all people of faith to reach out to 10 others to vote. In addition, we will rebroadcast our Sept. 14 program “Voting is Power Unleashed” twice on Monday.

WHO: The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, co-chaired by Rev. Dr. William Barber and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, along with leaders across faith traditions, are joining together to commit to a M.O.R.E. Faithful Month leading up to the Nov. 3 election.

WHEN: 10 a.m. Pacific/1 p.m. Eastern Monday, Oct. 12th. Rebroadcast of “Voting is Power Unleashed!”: 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern/12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Pacific.

WHERE: Join online at www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/livestream

WHY: People of faith are defining what it means to them to be M.O.R.E. Faithful in this moment. As a movement that is committed to addressing the false moral narrative of religious nationalism the M.O.R.E. Faithful Month of October is a call for people of faith to commit to raising their voices and bringing their souls to the polls to vote from their deep moral convictions.

**The event will be captioned.

BACKGROUND:  The Poor People’s Campaign has launched the M.O.R.E. Faithful Month from Oct. 2 to Nov. 1. The M.O.R.E. Faithful Month will include a variety of opportunities for people to take action, including a commitment to take the Prophetic Pledge and lift up a Prophetic Message.

People can participate in Each Reach Ten by signing up to call or text poor and low-income voters in key states where their vote can have the greatest impact or by continuing existing get-out-the-vote efforts that they are a part of and reaching out to 10 additional people.

Lifting up a prophetic message is an invitation to faith leaders and people of faith to speak around the theme: What does it mean to do M.O.R.E. as a person of faith?  People can offer a 30-second to 60-second recording or create a longer message/service/teaching/talk. Those who register for the M.O.R.E. Faithful Month will be able to submit their messages which then has the opportunity to be shared nationally across the Poor People’s Campaign social media platforms.
