Join the Maryland Poor People's Campaign and Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition on Friday, Sept. 10, at 11 am for a combined in-person and online rally and march to Save Moses Cemetery!
A portion of the cemetery had been purchased by Westwood Tower Apartments and seated below the pavement of Westwood’s parking lot since the late 1960s. The Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) seeks to sell the Westwood property to a private developer for $51 million.
The coalition and the church have fought for years to have the land turned over to them so they can build a memorial and a museum.
The in-person event will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church at River Road and Clipper Lane; and remotely feature Poor People's Campaign co-chairs Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis.
Space is limited due to required social-distancing (all attendees must #MaskUp). Parking at the church or adjacent lot will NOT be available. RSVP now for further details.
The program will also be livestreamed on the Maryland PPC Facebook page for anyone who feels it would be safer to remain home given the current climate of COVID.
